VOLUME II: September Edition

(An Online-Only PDF)

SUBMISSION DUE: AUG 20TH
Our September cause is Green Wave. This organization has developed a new method of ocean farming designed to restore ocean ecosystems, mitigate climate change, and create blue-green jobs for fishermen - while providing healthy, local food for communities.

THEME: Ocean

This call is open to visual artists and writers. We would like to include pre-existing work, as well as images and projects made specifically for the theme. Projects are open, but should use still images or written media to examine and celebrate the ocean in any way that you feel adds to our understanding and appreciation for them. For example, projects might be: color swatches painted from edible seaweed varieties, a story of the creatures in a 3-D farm, an illustration of the fisherman of the future, etc. We will choose artists that approach the subject in exceptionally deep, skilled, and imaginative ways.

- Our goal is to expand our audience's idea of and attachment to the subject at the same time as they are funding its conservation. -

SEND YOUR WEBSITE & ANY RELEVANT IMAGES AND/OR 1-2 SENTENCE PROJECT PROPOSALS TO miles.lewis@paperearth.org.

We will contact you about your submission on Aug. 21st. If selected, images and projects will be due by Aug. 30th.

In the process of compiling the PDF file, we want to personalize artist's statements and images as much as possible (with studio images, bio, etc.) and will work with you to do so. We want these books to be substantial and efficient showcases for what you have to say about the subject.

All artists will be invited to join as Members & visual artists will be invited to host 1 or 2 physical pieces to sell through the Original Art page

Through September, artists will receive extensive promotion and cross-promotion via newsletters and social media broadcasts.

VOLUME III: October Edition

(An Online-Only PDF)

SUBMISSION DUE: AUGUST 15TH
Our October cause is The Urban Death Project. The UDP is researching an innovative new system of death care that honors both our loved ones and the planet Earth. This system - called Recomposition - transforms bodies into soil so that we can grow new life after we die.

THEME: Beautiful Decay

This call is open to visual artists and writers. We would like to include pre-existing work, as well as images and projects made specifically for the theme. Projects are open, but should use still images or written media to examine and celebrate the life cycle and/or death and decomposition in any way that you feel adds to our understanding and appreciation for the biological nature of life. For example, projects might be: a still life of decomposing materials, a personal story of coming to terms with decline, an innovative visualization of the life cycle, etc. Appreciation of death and decay is a more difficult subject than most others we will be featuring. The objective of the Urban Death Project is also strange and even grotesque to some people. That makes it one of the most important for stories and images that connect ideas, encourage empathy, and broaden perspective. We will choose artists that approach the subject in exceptionally deep, skilled, and imaginative ways.

- Our goal is to expand our audience's idea of and attachment to the subject at the same time as they are funding its conservation. -

SUBMISSION DUE: AUGUST 30th
Our November cause is Be Zero. They're a year-old organization out of Colorado dedicated to inspiring, educating, and activating individuals to dramatically reduce their individual plastic and trash footprint and to create simple and sustainable lifestyle habits.

THEME: Minimalism And Maximalism

This call is open to visual artists and writers. We would like to include pre-existing work, as well as images and projects made specifically for the theme. Projects are open, but should use still images or written media to examine everyday objects, consumerism, simplicity, excess, sufficiency, gluttony, efficiency, detailed chaos or any associated concepts and subjects along that spectrum. For example, projects might be: a photo project that catalogues the innovative re-use of an every-day disposable item, a story that imagines the simplest life possible, or a still life drawing that represents things that we reuse everyday alongside things that we dispose of everyday.

We will choose artists that approach the subject in exceptionally deep, skilled, and imaginative ways.

- Our goal is to expand our audience's idea of and attachment to the subject at the same time as they are funding the cause. -

SUBMISSION DUE: OCTOBER 15TH
Our November cause is Interfaith Power & Light. Their campaign intends to protect the earth’s ecosystems, safeguard the health of all Creation, and ensure sufficient, sustainable energy for all. THEME: Humanity In Nature

This call is open to visual artists and writers. It is no way religiously specific but welcomes all religious or non-religious perspectives. We would like to include pre-existing work, as well as images and projects made specifically for the theme. Projects are open, but should use still images or written media to examine how human beings exist in harmony, conflict, control, and stewardship with nature. For example, this can take the form of figures composed in natural surroundings, illustrations that represent humanity's relationship to the landscape, stories about the similarity between humans and their fellow creatures, or personal meditations on a divinity shared by all of nature.

We will choose artists that approach the subject in exceptionally deep, skilled, and imaginative ways.

- Our goal is to expand our audience's idea of and attachment to the subject at the same time as they are funding the cause. -
